+You Know Nothing

This is a special rant. This was directly inspired by my sister. So here's the thing, I'm in college. I've done my time in required schools studying bullshit nobody cares about. As somebody who has completed what is known as high school (and contrary to idiotic popular belief, high school is not a building that you attend, it's an institution of learning forced upon those between the ages of fourteen and eighteen, which does not exclude home schooling or private/non-traditional schools), I am under the (correct) impression that it sucks. In case you haven't figured it out by now, I am an opinionated person, so I have no problem voicing this opinion. My sister has a problem with this, because she's in high school and loves it. Because of her inability to comprehend what I can wrap my mind around, I'm going to break it down into a few simple reasons why high school sucks.

The innate problem with high school is that it contains teenagers. I think we can all well agree that of every age group, the most annoying is teenagers. They're all rebels without a cause, trying on every possibly identity and flitting from place to place having no idea who they are, trying to be "unique" (whatever that is) and also trying to fit in, which is retarded. You can't be unique and follow a crowd, so pick one, dumbass. Because teenagers are so eager to figure out who they are, if they actually find something they like, they grab onto it like a life preserver on the Titanic, and then they get offended if somebody else doesn't like it. The result of all of this is the retarded bullshit known as drama. So much shit starts over the most retarded things. For instance, some girl says "I hate the color green." and then the next minute somebody is spreading a rumor about her because green is her favorite color. Nobody fucking said everybody has to like the same shit! You don't even have to like the same shit as your friends to get along, it's all a matter of respecting other people's opinions and tastes, but stupid teenagers are so hung up on themselves and what they like that they think everything is a personal attack. Here's a thought: most people don't care enough about your existence to care what you like, so why are you being offended about their opinions? What a stupid waste of energy. It is my opinion that high school is a lame waste of time. Being that it's an opinion, it can't be right or wrong, so it's absolutely retarded to get bent out of shape over the assertion, but it's exactly the thing a stupid, dramatic teenager/high school student would do.

Another problem with high school, and why stupid high school students think it's great is because they have a baseless opinion of it. If you just got hit in the face with a bag of coins, stubbing your toe isn't going to seem that bad. Junior high is pretty much the worst experience ever. Kids are even more annoying and immature and people are moving from all being friends to starting cliques, the school work is completely useless because you're stuck in never never land between things like Math 6 and Algebra (wtf, Math 7? Weren't the first six enough?) and "Introduction to Grammar". It's completely useless, so of course high school is a big step up. You think you're an adult just because you're in the highest level of your required education, but the fact of the matter is, you're still a 15 year old dumbass who hasn't lived enough to know what's going on. Obviously, you think high school is the best thing in the world, because you have the misfortune of still being in it. If you weren't in it, you wouldn't think it was so great because, believe it or not, there are things more important, and more interesting/fun, than soccer matches and chemistry tests.

The next reason high school sucks is that it's not real life, at all. I'm not saying living in a college bubble is, but at high school, you go, you sit at a desk and do one of three things: pay attention, sleep, or entertain yourself by staring at a wall. Your lunches are provided, your way is paved, you live at home, your parents provide for you, chauffeur you around, et cetera, et cetera. The social scene revolves around either drama or drinking, which are both stupid by nature. People think that the way people treat each other is indicative of how people actually behave, which couldn't be further from the truth. When you actually have to worry about paying a bill, going to work, studying for something more challenging than the snore fest that is high school subjects, you realize that high school is pretty much the lap of luxury. Some people say high school was the best time of their life, and personally I can buy it, because you didn't have to DO anything. Your only real responsibility is to show up and take tests. If my life were that easy, I'd be set! But alas, in being so easy and pointless, high school doesn't prepare you to actually do anything useful.

Something that seems to slip past a lot of people is that EVERYBODY has to go to high school, no matter how smart or stupid they are, therefore the idiot populace is out of control there. Even in private high schools, there are still the kids whose parents send their kids there with the sole aim of keeping them out of trouble (or maybe because they got kicked out of public school). It doesn't matter what kind of school it is short of home schooling because there are going to be idiots everywhere and because everybody in the country has to attend somewhere, chances are there's an idiot near you. I went to a school that was college prep (three days a week of bullshit instead of five, though I did my five day a week time in the previous nine years) and there were still so many morons there I couldn't believe it. In college, especially a private university like mine, you actually have to know something to get in, so the ratio of smart to dumb is really much more satisfying. Plus, at high school you're crammed into the same building all day, so you can't even avoid the dumbasses. I don't have to see people I don't want to see because I can go to a different building or make sure I'm in a different section of a class if somebody I don't like is taking it. The options for idiot evasion at college are endless, but not so much in high school.

Any way you look at it, high school is a waste of time. You go through six years of elementary school where you basically reiterate what you learned the previous year for an entire semester, and then maybe move onto a new and exciting concept like THE TRIANGLE or some shit that would take anybody with a brain ten minutes to learn. Then you move into the crap fest known as junior high, which is like elementary school part II except with more prepubescent brats. Finally, you follow up the worst years ever with high school, and this is just a ploy to make you think your condition has improved when it really hasn't. You're still studying the same old shit with almost no say in it. I don't care what you say about choosing classes or activities, you still have a core of classes that are required and there is just no changing the fact that you're going to take English four times and learn how to diagram the same sentence four times, learn to write a paper four times, and so forth. It's repetition of the same old bullshit again and again. I don't care how much fun you think you're having, it still blows. You may find this hard to believe, but I enjoyed high school. I like learning and I like a school environment, so it's not like I was some outcast kid in high school. I even know some cool high school students, like my friends Toni, and Aglaya (witness to the fact that not everybody in highschool sucks), however looking back on it with a more informed perspective, it is apparent that the downfalls of high school much outweigh any small benefits, so it's utterly useless, and therefore it SUCKS. And if you think otherwise... well, what do I care? You're just a stupid high school kid.

Get me out of here!
