+Stop, Think, Shut up!

One thing I've noticed lately is that people always seem to think they're a professional. Idiots are always telling you to drive this way or do this, do that, even though they have absolutely no basis for the things they say. These morons will insist their way is right. Well, I have my own advice: Stop, think, and SHUT UP about what you don't understand. I'm sure you've been playing a video game or doing something on a computer and some idiot tells you 'go this way, do it this way, this way is better' when obviously what you're doing is working. Why do they think they need to coach you when you're obviously capable of doing things on your own? I know how to handle a video game controller, dumbass! Stop telling me what to do! What makes people think they know any better than I do? Because they devote their stupid lives to it? That doesn't make you better, it just makes you pathetic! Why do you assume you know something more than somebody who's already doing it? Shut up already!

I was at work a couple weeks ago and this guy called in wanting me to change administration for a listserve. Fine, I say I'll put in the ticket, standard procedure, that I'll need to hear from the group's advisor before anything can be done. The guy gets all offended, saying it's never been done that way before, telling me that he has an e-mail from his advisor telling him that he can change the admin privileges I humored him, checked with my manager, and got the same answer, but he persisted. Okay, first step: STOP. Just shut up long enough to let your brain's gears to grind. Okay, now they're grinding, so step two: THINK! Consider the fact that if I am the one getting paid for the job, and if I am the one who has the training, that perhaps I actually have some idea of what is going on. Think about the fact that if I were as brainless as you on the subject, this wouldn't be my job! Finally, SHUT UP. We've established that I'm right, now shut your mouth and do what I say. I can't change the rules because that's how you think it is, and I wouldn't if I could because you are so entitled that you think it should be this way because some equally uninformed individual has said so, too. Does your advisor work for Information and Technology? I don't think so, so you can just shut up!

A really big one that pisses me off, being in the field of study that I am, is when people don't take medical professionals seriously. I HATE it when people have a grudge against doctors, saying that they're all in it just to make money and that they don't care about the patients, or better yet, that they have some ulterior motive such as drugging your all important brain into complacency (ala Tom Cruise Delusion). I'll start with medicine. First, do you have any idea what most doctors make? It's not as much as you seem to think. My parents are doctors and trust me, we're not living in a palace. If you replace palace with 'squalor' then you'd be closer to the right idea. Just because some brain surgeons or specialists make a couple hundred thousand a year doesn't mean they all do, and since when do people go into medical school just for the money? I think if you asked most people why they became doctors, it would be because they want to help people. In any field there are going to be assholes who are in it for money (well, unless you're a garbage collector or something, haha), but there are also people who do it because they're genuinely called to it, so your basic assumption that all doctors are money grubbing assholes is wrong.

Next, there's the fact that people say doctors don't listen to them. They come in complaining of a problem and their doctor doesn't give them the diagnosis they expect. Well, okay, if I go in and have a cough and I expect cough medicine but get referred to an oncologist, that's not what I expected, but it's kind of why the doctor is there! You may not realize this, and I'll let you in on a secret: DOCTORS GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL. Medical school, in case you don't know, is an intensive three year school that requires countless hours of study and dedication to simply pass, let alone excel in, and that doesn't even include residency. They are smarter than you by definition, get over it. Stop bitching and think about the fact that they maybe know something that you don't because they went to medical school. Last time I checked, you're seeing them because you have a problem you can't solve, so why do you get mad when they give you an answer you didn't want? Sorry if you have a horrible disease; blame your parents, not your doctor.

Finally, there seems to be a popular trend thanks to our best friend Tom Cruise, wherein people think that The Man (tm) is trying to control your brain ala 1984 using psychiatric drugs. Once again, stop being stupid and use that empty space between your ears. The most obvious thing is that if the government or The Man (tm) wanted to control your brain, don't you think psychiatry is a little obvious? If you're going to control people, wouldn't it be better to do it in a way that isn't so open to public scrutiny, like with a secret service? And what makes these people think that the people prescribing medicine have anything but the patient's best interest in mind? I'm not saying I think we should give every hyper kid Ritalin, or every teen with the blues Zoloft or Prozac, but if these people didn't have emotional or behavior problems to begin with, there would be nothing to treat. Is Psychiatry, which is part of the medical community (pledging to do no harm), really causing mental illness, which creates a huge drain on tax dollars spent on institutionalizing sufferers and taking care of their neglected kids? If the Psychiatry Devil (tm) really wanted to make money, there would be better ways to do it, for instance, they could start a ridiculous religion that says we're aliens from another planet. If there's anybody you should be pissed at, it's pharmaceutical companies that sell the drugs for much more than the cost of production just because the can, and hock the drugs at the psychiatrists giving them benefits if they prescribe. But hey, we're all pretty much in it for money, so quit bitching. The goal of any company or business is to make money and you're delusional if you think otherwise. Once again, the rule stands, stop your bitching, think about the fact that these people might know something you don't, and then shut up and take your damn Zoloft. If you took it you wouldn't be such a cranky hag.

The bottom line is, everybody's trying to make enough money to get by, so you can't fault professionals for doing so as well just because it doesn't benefit you. In their shoes, you would do the same thing. Nobody is trying to bring you down or control you, and if you would take your head out of your ass, you'd realize that people in service occupations wouldn't be in those jobs if they didn't know what they were talking about. In conclusion, if you knew what you were talking about, you'd be answering the questions, not asking them, so sit down, shut up, and do what you're told, or you, my friend, will be stabbed in the eye.

Get me out of here!
